This is what I now refer to as Mall Hair. Once I got out of the perm, frizz era I swore that I would never get another perm. Straight hair was in. Sleek, beautiful styles that made me invest in not one, but two flat irons.
I loved my straight hair but it is getting boring. I have decided to take the plunge and get *gasp, clutch the pearls* another perm.
Now, this perm will be nothing like my former perms like the one you can see to the left. The new perm will be soft, loose curls. Just slightly more than a body wave.
My problem is that I haven't yet decided how curly to go. This is where I need your help. Whatever one you choose will be the one that I take with me to the salon tomorrow.
I can't get the choices numbered up with the photo so just let me know which one you like .
The style will be different than the ones in the photos. I am just trying to decide how much of a curl to get.

within one-third of a second, two words came to mind upon seeing the first photo: "Breakfast Club". So, do you still keep in contact with Molly Ringwald? :)
Anon ~ LOL...At the time it was THE fashion. Now I see those old photos of myself and I cringe a bit.
It is a bit Molly Ringwald~esque. I haven't ever met Molly but we might have used the same size perm rods.
Ahhhhh, I think I am having a bad 80's flashback. At least the picture don't show if you where wearing leggings. Then I would have had to gouge my eyes out and drink bleach. I thought we got out of the 80's.
I'd go with #2 or #3.
now... I think #1 looks like the best. Followed by #2. #3 is fine if you are a cylon. #4? No. #5? Looks like something went wrong with it: too frizzy.
LOVE #3 :-) Promise a pic after so we get to see! I tried a perm a while back - I wanted big loose curls like these pics - but my hair didn't hold it and it became more of a scrunched crazed mess - but it was fun. I enjoyed it while I had it. And my son loved it - he keeps telling me to go get another perm. I too got hooked up with my straightener and I'd be lost without it.
Dennis ~ Please go drink bleach. I want to watch...LOL.. Just kidding. I never wore leggings. That was my sister.
Eric ~ #2 or #3? I put a tick mark next to both for your votes.
Anon ~ I put you down for #1. What is a cylon?
#5 is kinda frizzy. I was looking more at the curl structure rather than the model's lack of mousse.
Reformat ~ Marked you for #3. I am looking for big loose curls but one that I can straighten if I want to. Nothing like the rats nest that I used to have.
I think you should go with #1. Not too much, just enuff. Just dont end up with "the frizzzies". I am sure whichever you pick will be beautiful....and dont forget it soon grows out. Hey just made me think...the tighter the curl at first the longer it will last. Nah..I still like #1 best.
I think the red head and the blonde are equally cute. No on the cheerleader b/c it's too flat on the top. Forget about the last picture, it looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket.
Kay
Do #1!!!!! That's where my vote is! :)
Rach, I like #1. Take it from me, trying to keep curls on the top of your head from looking out of control is quite a chore! I think you'd be happier having it straighter at the top and curlier at the bottom. That way we can be twinners! I can't wait to see what it looks like - I'm sure it will be beautiful!!!
I would have to say #2 or #3... but ultimately it is still your choice and you are the one who has to work with it every day.. Good Luck you Crazy Girl...I don't think I could go there again ... but have at it..I hate my curls..and spend a great deal of time removing them... Have fun!
Moonbeam ~ Marked you down for #1. I think that when I get it done it will be a bit curlier than I want for the first couple of weeks. Then it tones down.
Kay ~ Marked you down for your picks. #5 is frizzy. It reminds me a bit of Carrie Bradford from Sex & The City.
Playtah ~ Gotcha!
Redheadgal/Rebecca ~ I see your issues with naturally curly hair. Believe me, I will be discussing mousse, gel, and other styling products with you before I go tomorrow.
I <3 your hair BTW.
Maria ~ I marked down your votes. I remember your big Mall Hair from back in the day too. I also remember the feathered hairstyle ala Farah Fawcett...
which always brings me back to when I ruined your light pink jeans when I was 12 or so. I still feel bad about that.
I like photos #1 and #3 the best.
Hey do you remember the "crimping" irons? They made our hair all kinky like crinkle fries? I think I had one of those, and I had a straigtening iron for awhile too.
Tara ~ I do remember the crimper. Do you remember before that came out, braiding your hair into tiny sections so that it was "crimped"?
I believe the Cylon Anon was refering to was the Caprica Six type, not the toaster or classic type. The same actress who plays six also played Farah Fawcett in a movie about behind the scenes Charlie's Angels.
I like the first picture, but the Heroes cheerleader do would look good too.
I really can't get perms. In the eighties I got something called a Uni perm. It involved putting about ten pounds of hot metal clamps on my head. I did that twice a year. They don't make those anymore, and regular perms do not curl my hair. Nothing really does anything for my hair. I tried one last time, a bit before my sister got married, so I'd look nice in the photos. It didn't do much, and I still hated the photos. Plain straight hair for me from now on. Even if someone finds some Uni perm equipment, I don't think my neck is up to the ten pounds of metal clamps twice a year.
A high school photo? You are brave! :) Actually, I think mine was much worse. I like the middle one. Do they actually do large curl perms? You'll have to let us know how it goes. ...hmmm something for me to think about.
I like option #2 the most. You can have my curls if you want them. Actually I've grown to love them after 30 years.
Ah, the mighty Wishkah Doo.
laughingattheslut~ The crown of my head is difficult to perm so I will have to go one size smaller on the rods for that section to get the same size perm. I would hate to not be able to get a perm at all.
Freckle ~ Nahh. I posted it a few months ago for Tara's Post A Photo From High School Day. I just recycled it.
Egan ~ I lived in Pierce County at the time of this photo so that would be the "Parkland Doo". Technically it was everywhere though. This was right before grunge hit the area like a sledge hammer.
While I love the heck out of number three, I would go with number four (Hayden Panatierre). I think if you went with a looser perm, you could always straighten it if you felt like it, or could beef it up to a curlier do if you wanted.
However, if you don't wanna have to do anything with your hair...three.
I am laughing with you about your high school hair. At least your bangs aren't sticking straight up!
Is there a Parkland River? So you're saying your hair could stretch from Pierce to Thurston county. Now that's cool stuff.
Go with the first photo. I mean, the very first photo. Then let us know how it goes on your dates with Rob Lowe and Emilio Estevez.
I like the third one best.
I also think the third one is the best wave.
And as for high-school photos... I know.. There are some I want to hide and burn. Not just for the hair do's but for the fashion!!
Was that you in the first one? You had beautiful skin for a teenager!!!
As for perms, my mom keeps wanting one and all I cant think about is the ones she would get in the 80s. She has fine, straight, short hair and just wants body. DO tell me if it turns out nice for you, cuz i might let her do it if thats the case.
#1 or #3
I have been soooooooooooooo tempted to get a perm, much like the ones you mentioned.
The 2nd!
Third picture down! Go with the long flowing curls. Less frizz, longer curl.
I love the first and second, it seems more relaxed...pls post a picture after you have done it!
And your high school pictures looks lovely!
Number #1 or #2.. the last one is way too frizzy.. something not right about that one..good luck with your choice... I'm sure it will turn out.. Make sure to post a pic when you have it done...:)
Laughing mentioned a toaster. I think one was involved with the last hairdo photo.
Rae,
I like #1 the best. It has to be better than your high school pic.
Hilly...the straight up bangs happened after high school.
Egan~ I thought you were talking about the town Wishkah. No Parkland River. I bet if I measured the heigth of that hair it may have rivaled the distance from Thurston to Pierce County.
Anon ~ Ummmmm. Been there, done that. The hair that is.
Dating Rob Lowe? If he wasn't married that would be awesome. He is HOTT!!!
L.b. ~ Marked you down...Thanks.
not so little woman ~ I was wearing a baby doll outfit in that photo. The one piece outfit that stops at the knee with elastic gathers at the bottom...shudder
Lusty ~ Yes, that was me in the first photo. I never had a huge issue with acne. I had lots of tiny bumps on my forehead but they rarely exploded.
M ~ I will let you know how it goes and if I like it.
Chickybabe ~ Marked you down!! Thanks.
jr's thumbprints ~ I have you marked down for that one. My hair isn't quite that long but I think that it is a gorgeous curl.
Erica ~ I will be posting before and after shots tomorrow.
Babybull40 ~ That last one is frizzy but I liked the amount of curl that it had. I will post a photo tomorrow.
Anon ~ It is pretty frizzy. Maybe she doesn't have a humidifier.
Mom ~ Just about anything is better than the style that I had in my high school pic.
omg...I haven't been reading anyone in a week. Am I too late to vote?? I like #4- the girl from Heroes. Then again, that's what my hair looks like most of the time, so maybe I'm a little biased.
I see Chicky and I have similar thoughts. Go with two, it's the right thing to do. Nah, the Wishkah River. No worries.
