Lifestyle Change Update

It has been two weeks now that I have been on Weight Watchers. I have learned a lot about how utterly poor my eating habits actually are and how to modify them to live a healthier lifestyle. I still have a VERY long way to go and a LOT more to learn, but I have stuck with the plan for two weeks and have used hardly any of my weekly points, just my daily points.

So, last week I went to weigh in and was SOOOOO disappointed because I hadn't lost anything. Zero, Nothing, Nada. I was pretty upset because I did really well and stuck to the plan. The few mistakes that I made counting points or items I just added to my Weekly Point count.

This week I went in and weighed in and was so shocked. I lost 7.5 pounds. I am absolutely ecstatic. I would have been thrilled with 3 or 4 pounds, but 7.5 is incredible.

I have really cut down the diet soda to 1 or 2 per day instead of 6-8 per day. Even though they have no calories, the lack of water really hurt. Now I drink a ton of water and actually don't have much of a taste for soda.

I am sleeping better and last weekend woke up and got out of bed at 8:30 both days. Usually I would wake up 3 or 4 times throughout the night, get up around 11 or so and then take a nap in the afternoon. I haven't taken a nap since I started either.

It is amazing how much better I feel since I am not stuffing fast food into my craw on a near daily basis. I haven't had a cheeseburger since I started and I haven't missed it yet.

That is wonderful news, Rachel! Wow, 7.5 pounds? Hey, if you do get a craving for soda now and then, you should try drinking club soda. I drink La Croix club soda, but they have different flavors now and they're natural instead of using the artificial sweetener. I love the stuff. Plus there aren't any calories.

That's awesome. Good job. Doesn't it feel good to accomplish something?

I had a similar thing happen several years ago. I decided to eat right and drink lots of water, but then I didn't notice any weight loss at first. Probably you lost three pounds of fat that first week, but it didn't show on the scale because you'd added three pounds of water.

At this rate you'd lose about three and a half pounds a week. Losing much more than two or three pounds a week isn't safe. Two or three pounds a week doesn't sound like much, but remember that if you lost just two pounds a week you'd lose just over a hundred pounds in a year, and three pounds a week would add up to more than a hundred and fifty pounds a year.

If you keep at it, by this time next year you'll look very different and should have a lot of health benefits as well.

Congratulations! It is amazing how much more energy one gets when eating right AND the amount of sleep one gets too. You'll be amazed at the next thing to happen....about 3 months from now you will start thinking fast food is gross and never want it again!

Tara ~ I still drink a Diet Pepsi a day and maybe soon I will cut that out as well. I usually have one with my lunch to spoil myself.

Skyzi ~ Thanks. I was very surprised.

Moonbeam ~ I was grinning from ear to ear during the entire meeting.

Churlita ~ It feels great to stick to it and feel great and know that I am doing something positive for myself.

Laughing ~ I am pretty sure that the weight loss will slow down a bit. Usually the first few weeks have a more dramatic loss and then it averages out. I am aiming for a 2 pound per week average but will be thrilled with a steady weight loss.

Hilly ~ I can't wait for the day that fast food sounds gross.

Furtive ~ I am currently adding days to my life bank as I type :)

Wow, a few weeks and I missed a lot! Sounds like you've made excellent progress so far. Good for you, Rachel. It's wonderful how changes in diet can affect so much.

Good work, keep going. 7.50 is considerable progress and do not get discouraged by minimal loss, the body does weird things.

I told you last night, I'm very proud of you! That's awesome. I do agree with one of the posts, that losing much more than a few pounds a week is unhealthy, but at this point you don't need to worry about it. I agree, too, that it is more about how you feel than the numbers. You may need to keep that in mind in the future. I can't wait to see the two of you and your progress in a few months! I'm so excited :) Congrats again!
