I was shopping yesterday with Anne at Fashion Bug. She had some coupons and a gift certificate so she was trying on clothes in the changing room while I was sitting on a bench just outside so that I could give her my imput when she would model her clothing.
A woman asked to try some clothing on and I saw her walk past me. She was probably a size 18 had cute brown capri pants on with a patterned top. Her hair and makeup were done to perfection. On her feet she had tan mules with a flower applique on the top. All of this was noticed in a split second perusal while I was waiting in between mini runway shows from Anne.
Another second passed and my brain computed what I had seen in my quick perusal. I quickly look back at her shoes and noticed that she had the crustiest heels that I had seen in a LONG time. Seriously, there must be some kind of fungal thing going on or she hasn't ever heard of a pumice stone. It nearly turned my stomach.
Here was this woman who went out of her way to look nice. She probably spends a lot of money on clothing, makup and having her hair done. Why wouldn't she spend $2 for a pumice stone???
I was so tempted to quietly go next to her dressing room door and say "You look really nice today and I can tell that you care about your appearance. You might want to look into getting a pedicure."
I didn't do it, but I really wanted to. I hate it when women make such an effort to look nice and then totally negate all of the work that they have done by overlooking something like this. For example, if she has a fungal issue and can't get rid of the crusties, the outfit would have looked just as cute with a pair of ballet flats.
It could just be me. This is a big trigger for me. I try to make my feet look nice and I know how hard it is to get rid of the crusty edges on your heels when you are heavy. I struggle to get rid of them sometimes myself. But that's when I head down to the nearest nail salon, soak my tootsies and have that crap professional sloughed off.
So, since I didn't say anything to her I will say it to all of my wonderful readers.
Check your heels!!! If they are crusty, do something about it. Or, at least wear shoes so that stomaches aren't turning .

and the bonus is pedicures are sooooo fun and relaxing. :)
I read your mind. I knew you were going to post this, so I got a pedicure last week. Now I can do my little turn on the catwalk (yeah, Right Said Fred reference there) in style. How's that for thinking ahead?
AMEN!!!!!
I so agree about this. Crusty feet are not good, and should not be out in the open. It's too bad she looked cute, then wreaked it completely.
I actually bought a pumice stone the other day for a whole dollar.. I need to keep my feet pretty for the Big Day .. I have open shoes...
That's so funny. It never occurs to me to look at anyone's feet. Ever. I think it's because I'm a runner and my feet are not pretty. I consider it a courtesy not to look at anyone else's feet.
The seen in Boomerang where Eddie Murphy rejects the girl with ugly crusty feet...
...you spend the money on the shoes why not what goes in them?
That reminds me of a mass e-mail that went around about 2 years ago. It is true that people should check their feet before exposing them in sandals. It is also a good idea to get AT LEAST one good pedicure before the summer starts.
I've never had a pedicure from a salon, but while reading your post, I did stop to check my heels. They're doing well. Although I recently gave myself a pedicure, I don't usually notice peoples feet.
That makes me smile. But I didn't wash my hair this morning... does that negate the makeup, nailpolish, and sweater?
But Yeah for me....dirty hair & all:) My heels aren't crusty!
So, does that make you.....(wait for it).......the Anti-Crust?
Wow, very harsh judgement from a heavy woman. Although I'm not a fan of "crusty feet" either, I would not put anyone on blast on my blog about it either.
People's priorities are their own business. Maybe you should have started WW sooner but I'm sure you had your reason as I'm sure this woman had her reasons for her feet.
